Interesting Italian Food: Pocket Coffee

I live in Italy and I don’t drink coffee.  Its tragic really.

I wish I was a coffee drinker because the coffee here is Amazing.

Instead, I am a tea drinker.  I would say that means I should move to England, but since Prince William is off the market, really, what’s the point?

While I don’t actually drink coffee, I love the smell of coffee and the taste of coffee flavored things.  I also love chocolate.

The culinary geniuses at Ferrero must also love chocolate and coffee because they are the marketers of Pocket Coffee, also known as one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth.

Pocket Coffees are little chocolate candies with coffee flavored syrup inside.  Kind of like a cordial, but instead of liqueur, it is coffee.  I think they are German because all the writing on the package is English and German, but Ferrero is an Italian company so really I have no idea.

I also don’t know if these have made their way over to the U.S., but I never saw them until I moved to Italy so I am assuming they are only in Europe (please correct me if I am wrong).

Anyway, eating a Pocket Coffee is like biting into the best piece of chocolate cake you have ever eaten, and taking a drink of espresso at the same time.  You would think the flavors would compete with each other, but no, they form this perfect little relationship in your mouth.  It is wonderful.

Do you see all the wonderful coffee syrup oozing out of the rich chocolate shell?  Imagine all of that goodness exploding in your mouth, like I said, wonderful.

Please excuse the fingerprint on the top of the chocolate I thought it would be weird to cut into the chocolate with a knife (does anyone remember George Castanza cutting the candy bar???) so I just smashed it with my fingers, much more civilized in my opinion.

One of the things I like most about these little pieces of heaven is that you cant go crazy and eat 10 in a sitting.  They are so rich one or two will satisfy your craving and you wont end up with a sugar hangover the next morning.

Do they have Pocket Coffee or anything like it in America?  If they don’t, please let me know so I can start my pocket coffee smuggling empire!

  1. Loved the Seinfeld reference! I am a late to the party coffee drinker. I only started in my mid 30’s. Have you ever had a coffee crisp chocolate bar?
