This weekend I went to visit the Ca’ Bruzzo vineyard, which sits along the Colli Berici wine route.  Ca’ Bruzzo is an organic winery which grows and bottles five varieties of wine grapes: Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Carmenere, and Toccai Rosso, which is a grape unique to these hills.

This is my favorite time of year to visit a winery, when the grapes are still on the vines, but the leaves have started to change colors.  Before I moved here I had no idea grape leaves changed colors at the end of the season, I think it is breathtaking.

After we took a tour of the vineyard, where the owner explained the differences between the grape varietals and growing conditions (and we all ate grapes off the vine), we went into the bottling cellar for some wine tasting.

My favorite thing about the wine tasting was watching the owner use a long glass syringe like thing to pull wine straight from the barrels for a tasting, very cool looking.

All of the wine was very good but my favorite of the tasting was the Chardonnay.  Normally I am not a white wine drinker but this was excellent.

In total we tasted about five of the wines and while we were eating later the owner and his son brought around more bottles for us to enjoy.

If you are ever in the Veneto region (like say a trip to Venice) I highly recommend a tour of Ca’ Bruzzo, it really is a great time!
