I’ve nothing against people who love truth. Apart from the fact that they make dull companions.
Fate, at first so amenable, so reasonable, so open to negotiation, ends up by exacting a cruel revenge for happiness.
I don’t want to say too much about this book because I don’t want to give anything away, but it is definitely worth reading.
I am a not-so-secret Gothic nerd, and this is a modern Gothic tale, full of plot twists and mystery. Jane Eyre is mentioned enough times to be tiresome ~ I get annoyed when authors reference beloved books excessively, it feels like they are trying to profit from another’s genius ~ but the plot and narration suck you in quickly. This is the perfect book for long plane/train rides, which is exactly where I read it.
I loved this book and I hope you do as well. It’s wonderful mysterious and the quotes throughout are beautiful.
Hey Cassie! I love the quotes! Have you read any other books that are similar?
I really haven’t read anything as good as this one, but Kate Morton writes similar in that fairytale way while still maintaining mystery, plot and beautiful writing. You should check out The Forgotten Garden.
I just googled The Forgotten Garden and it sounds really good!!! I am going to download it to my Kindle, will let you know how I like it!
Awesome. Please do!!
I really enjoyed this book, too!
I am really glad I read this book! I am reading ‘Death Comes to Pemberley’ now, it is a “sequel” to Pride and Prejudice, with some mystery thrown in. So far I am really enjoying it!
