Bologna Women’s Running Festival 6k

“You can go as slow as you want, but you can’t stop”
My friend Rebecca said this to me years and years ago when we were out for a jog.  I kept repeating that line in my head as I ran my first 6k today.

I only had one goal, to run the whole thing without stopping.  I didn’t care about my time or if I was the last person across the finish line, I just wanted to prove to myself that I could run the whole thing without stopping.

And I did!

After my first 6k

I went really slowly; about a 12 minute mile pace, but I never stopped.  It was drizzling the entire time, which was actually kind of nice because it kept me from overheating.  It did not keep me from sweating, which was a problem because I realized too late that I forgot to pack deodorant!  Lucky for me, I smell like cupcakes when I sweat…

Everyone moving toward the start line, waiting to run!

One of my favorite parts of the run was meeting my blogging hero Shauna from The Amazing Adventures of Diet Girl.  She had a group of ladies with her from the Up and Running course and they were all fantastic and very supportive of each other.  I am starting the 10k Up and Running course in June and I can’t wait to meet more of the Up and Running gang!

I was moving so fast, everything was a blur! No, not really.

The course took us through the entire city.  Some of the streets were blocked off and some were not, so in addition to dodging cars, pedestrians, and bikes, I also had to do the run without music (the earbuds would have been a safety hazard).  I was kind of freaked out when the announcer said no earphones would be permitted on the course, but it was kind of nice to run without all that noise.

Running past the city market

I want to say a great big Thank You to everyone who stopped by my blog to wish me luck, you have no idea how much it helps!

Next goal is a 10k!

For your 10k, start off slow, ease up in the middle and just coast on it. It works every time. You need Rebecca to ship in to train & run the 10K with you.
