My Food Choices Might Be Killing Me

OK, not exactly killing me, but definitely making me feel like a bag of smashed ass.

I am noticing a pattern of feeling great for a few days, and then out of nowhere feeling like I drank a cup of bleach.  Since there can’t be this many germs and virus lingering around, I am starting to think I am eating something, or lots of things, that are seriously pissing off my body.

A couple of years ago I was sick all the time and throwing up on a regular basis (such an attractive thing to be posting on the internet…).  After a long process of elimination I realized that gluten was to blame.  Now that I am starting to feel sick again, I am examining my food choices for any new suspects.  Here is what I have come up with:

1.) Sugar: I almost never add sugar to anything.  Not even my tea.  Since I don’t physically add sugar to my food I have been assuming that my sugar consumption is on the low end of normal.  So. Very. Untrue.  I have a serious sweet tooth and probably go for a sugary snack between 2 and 5 times a day.  That is a hell of a lot of sugar!

2.) Saturated Fat:  I am a big believer that we shouldn’t cut out all fat from our diets.  That said, I have been known to pour the excess bacon grease back into the pan with the main course “for flavor”.  That might be killing me.

3.) Gluten Free Products: Since I can’t eat gluten, most pasta and bread is off limits for me.  But when I find a gluten free bread (or even better, cake) I go nuts.  Gluten is what gives bread its wonderful texture, without it your bread would resemble a rock.  So when it comes to making gluten free bread, modifications need to be made.  I have learned that most of these modifications come in the form of chemicals.  Probably not doing me any favors in the health department…

For the next couple of days I am going to try to limit my food choices to fruits and veggies and other whole foods.  I am also going to track what I eat and exactly when I start to feel like crap.

Since my go to breakfast choice these days in gluten free cinnamon chex, I had to make a healthy substitution this morning.  The only thing I could come up with was asparagus.

Yeah, asparagus for breakfast.  Not Cool.

  1. And I hate to tell you – your pee is gonna smell funny after the asparagus – I love it and eat it a lot, but I’ve had to come to grips with holding my nose when I have to tinkle!! Good luck 🙂

Ask your mom to send you the info from my hair analysis. I was/am on a anti-candida diet. I did it for 10 days and felt much better but fell back into old habits on vacation and feel like crap again so I have a do over. no bread, no yeast, no sugar, no dairy (not an easy thing to do!). veggies are good but much to my surprise no carrots, lots of natural sugar, no fruit either. I am also taking a supplement to ditch the excess yeast from my system as well as a probiotic. needless to say my entire system is a mess……I miss my dairy and sugar!

I can’t believe carrots have too much sugar! I think I am really going to struggle with no sugar, now that I am paying attention I really do eat a lot of sugar.

You know things are bad when all you’re left with is asparagus. Hope you feel better soon, and good luck figuring out what it is that’s making your insides sad. 🙂

  4. Hope you figure out what the culprit is and start feeling better soon!
